Why We Exist

Building the UK’s Next-Generation Forestry Supply Network

Avalon Forestry was established to address a growing challenge within UK woodland creation — ensuring reliable access to quality planting stock for commercial forestry, conservation and environmental projects.

We are developing a specialist supply network of UK forestry nurseries and industry partners to provide customers with dependable access to suitable planting stock.

Our Mission

We simplify procurement of forestry planting stock and woodland creation trees for projects of any scale.

Whether you need thousands or millions of trees — from forestry seedlings and native woodland planting stock to commercial forestry planting at scale — Avalon Forestry provides a single point of contact, coordinating trusted nursery production partners so your project is supplied on time, to specification, and at the right quality.

Who We Work With

Forestry Contractors

Planting contractors need stock they can rely on — the right species, the right size, delivered to site on time and to specification. Delays or shortfalls don’t just cause inconvenience; they cost you planting days, labour, and contract reputation. Avalon Forestry works around your programme, coordinating supply from trusted UK nursery partners so your crews have what they need, when they need it. We handle the procurement complexity so you can focus on getting trees in the ground.

Woodland Creation Specialists

Woodland creation projects depend on the right species mix, the right provenance, and stock that performs in the field. Getting that wrong at the procurement stage can undermine years of planning. We work with woodland creation specialists from early in the process, helping to identify and secure appropriate native and commercial species, coordinate contract growing where required, and ensure stock arrives ready for your planting window.

Estates & Landowners

Estate-scale planting requires forward planning, species knowledge, and a supplier who understands the long-term nature of the work. Whether you are establishing new woodland, restocking felled areas, or creating habitat for conservation or sporting purposes, Avalon Forestry provides a straightforward supply route backed by our nursery network. We work to your timescales, advise on species selection, and coordinate logistics to suit your operation.

Developers

Biodiversity Net Gain obligations are reshaping how developers approach landscaping and habitat creation. Meeting BNG targets and planning conditions requires the right planting stock, procured to the right specification, with the documentation to demonstrate compliance. Avalon Forestry helps developers and their contractors secure compliant, well-specified planting stock — from native woodland mixes to hedgerow and riparian species — on time and to budget.

Local Authorities

Public-sector procurement demands transparency, documentation, and reliable delivery. Local authorities managing urban forestry programmes, highway tree planting, parks improvements or habitat projects need a supplier who understands the importance of a clear audit trail and consistent supply quality. We provide well-documented supply chains, provenance records, and proactive communication from order through to delivery.

Conservation Organisations

Habitat creation and restoration projects require planting stock of known provenance — the right genetic origin for the right location. Avalon Forestry works with conservation organisations and wildlife trusts to source native woodland planting stock that meets UK Forestry Standard and Natural England guidance. We can provide full provenance documentation and work with you to match seed origin to your site and restoration objectives.

Public-Sector Schemes

Government-funded forestry programmes — including England Woodland Creation Offer, the Woodland Carbon Code, and equivalent schemes in Scotland and Wales — place specific requirements on planting stock quality, provenance, and documentation. Avalon Forestry is experienced in supplying to the standards these schemes demand, helping scheme managers and delivery partners source compliant stock and maintain the records needed for scheme sign-off.

If your project needs trees, we can help.

The Story Behind the Business

Forestry supply shouldn’t be this complicated.

Avalon Forestry was founded to simplify one of the most complicated parts of woodland creation — securing reliable planting stock through trusted, long-term nursery relationships. Too many projects lose time, budget, and momentum chasing stock through fragmented channels. We exist to change that.

Behind Avalon Forestry is a team with deep roots in UK forestry — people who understand the pressures of planting seasons, the importance of provenance, and the value of a supplier who simply gets it done.

If that sounds like the partner your next project needs, we’d love to hear from you.

Our Business Model

How we support your project

Our objective is simple: to simplify the procurement of forestry planting stock. We do this through a focused set of support activities.

OUR PROCESS

How We Work

Step 1

Initial Consultation

We begin by understanding your project scope — species requirements, volumes, timelines, provenance needs and delivery locations. Every project is different, and we listen before we plan.

Step 2

Nursery Matching

We identify the right production partners from our trusted nursery network — matching your specification with nurseries that have the expertise and capacity to deliver.

Step 3

Production Planning

Forestry planting stock requires careful advance planning. We coordinate growing schedules with nursery partners well ahead of your planting programme to secure the volumes you need.

Step 4

Supply Management

Throughout the production cycle, we monitor progress and keep you informed. If circumstances change, we manage the response — so you don’t have to.

Step 5

Delivery Coordination

We organise logistics to align with your planting schedule, coordinating between nursery partners and your site team to ensure stock arrives in good condition, on time.

Step 6

Ongoing Partnership

We plan for the long term. Once a project is complete, we work with you to plan future seasons — building a supply relationship that grows alongside your forestry programme.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum order?

No minimum order applies. We work with projects of all sizes — from small woodland creation schemes requiring a few thousand trees through to large-scale commercial forestry programmes needing millions of units. Smaller orders are handled with the same care and attention as large ones, though lead times and pricing will vary depending on species, specification, and scale. If you’re unsure whether your project is the right fit, get in touch and we’ll be straightforward with you.

Is there a maximum order?

No. Our nursery network is built to handle projects at significant scale. By coordinating across multiple specialist UK nurseries, we can aggregate supply to meet large volume requirements that a single grower couldn’t fulfil alone. We have experience coordinating supply for major woodland creation programmes, estate-scale planting, and government-funded schemes. Early engagement is essential for high-volume orders — the earlier you speak to us, the better positioned we are to secure the right stock at the right time.

Do you deliver across the UK?

Yes. We coordinate delivery to sites throughout England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Delivery is arranged directly from nursery to site, or via consolidation depending on your project logistics. We work with you to schedule delivery windows that align with your planting programme and site access requirements. For remote or difficult-access sites, we’ll discuss logistics in advance to make sure delivery goes smoothly.

Do you offer contract growing?

Yes — contract growing is one of the most important services we offer. For projects requiring large volumes, specific provenances, or uncommon species, we can arrange bespoke growing programmes with our nursery partners well in advance of your planting date. Forestry planting stock typically requires one to three years of growing time depending on species and specification, so early planning is essential. Contract growing gives you security of supply and the ability to specify exactly what you need — size, root type, provenance, and timing.

What provenance options are available?

We supply stock of known provenance to meet the requirements of woodland creation schemes, grant conditions, and ecological specifications. Native species are available in local provenance seed zones aligned with the UK Forestry Standard and Forest Research guidance. Where specific seed origins are required — for example to meet Natural England or Forestry Commission grant conditions — we work with our nursery partners to source appropriately. Provenance documentation can be provided on request. If you have specific provenance requirements, let us know early so we can plan accordingly.

How do you manage biosecurity?

Biosecurity is taken seriously across our entire supply chain. All stock is sourced from nurseries operating under Plant Healthy certification or equivalent biosecurity protocols, in line with the UK Plant Health Service requirements. We do not import stock from high-risk sources, and where any imported material is considered, it is subject to full phytosanitary documentation and compliance with current import restrictions. We stay up to date with Forestry Commission and APHA guidance on pest and disease risks — including Phytophthora, Oak Processionary Moth, and Ash Dieback — and factor these into sourcing decisions. Your project’s biosecurity requirements can be discussed as part of the initial consultation.

What are your typical lead times?

Lead times depend on the species, specification, and volume required. As a general guide: bare root stock is typically available for the winter planting season (November to March) and should be ordered by late spring or early summer at the latest. Cell-grown and container stock can offer more flexibility but still benefits from advance planning. Contract-grown stock requires the longest lead time — often one to three growing seasons depending on species. For large or complex orders, we recommend engaging with us at least 12–18 months before your intended planting date. The earlier you come to us, the more options we have available.

What species do you supply?

We supply a wide range of native broadleaves and conifers for UK forestry and woodland creation. Commonly requested species include Oak, Birch, Scots Pine, Douglas Fir, Norway Spruce, and Sitka Spruce, among others. We also source less common native species for specialist habitat creation and restoration projects. If you have a specific species list, send it over and we’ll confirm availability, provenance options, and indicative pricing.

Do you import stock from overseas?

Our strong preference is for UK-grown stock, and the majority of what we supply is produced by British nurseries. Where UK-grown supply is insufficient to meet demand — for example during periods of high industry-wide demand or for species with limited domestic production — carefully selected imported stock may be considered. Any imported material must comply fully with UK plant health import requirements, carry the necessary phytosanitary certification, and meet our biosecurity standards. We will always be transparent about the origin of stock we are proposing to supply.

Can I collect rather than have stock delivered?

Collection directly from nursery can be arranged in some circumstances, particularly for smaller orders or where you have your own transport. This is agreed on a case-by-case basis depending on the nursery’s location and operational requirements. For larger orders, direct nursery-to-site delivery is usually the most practical and cost-effective option. If collection is something you’d prefer, mention it when you get in touch and we’ll explore what’s possible.
